Sending texts and downloading content on mobile phones is the new Aussie way of life, according to a study released today.
A griffith University Mobile Data Survey found users spend five times as much time downloading as they did two years ago.
It also showed about on their of mobile date service users were willing to pay a monthly fee of $500 or more for unlimited access, up from a willingness to pay $10 a month for unlimited access two years ago.
Associate Prof Shartn Rundle-Thiele said half of Aussies used mobile data services, and 40 per cent owned smart phones.
In the US, 33 per cent of respondents accessed mobile data and only 20 per cent owned a smart phone.
About 7- per cent of Aussies surveyed said they spent $30 or more per month on their mobiles and about a third of the Australian respondents spent more than $60 per month. Rundle-Thiele said Aussies were using their mobiles more because it was convenient.
“We text rather than email or pick up the phone. It has become an Australian way of life”, she said
